Sagnik Biswas - Summer Memoirs
Watercolor painting by Sagnik Biswas.
Artist Statement: Warm summer days and the sheer joy of living they evoke among people in diverse locations across the world - has always been an inspiration to paint for me. This sunny afternoon was significant as a subject due to the happy crowds thronging towards the famous Van Eyck Altarpiece in St Bavo’s, all while celebrating the Gentse Feesten in Ghent, Belgium. After some sketches and field notes (and the delectable Ghentse Waterzooi) at the site, I took a couple of photographs for future reference. Later I painted this on a half sheet at home. Colors have been tweaked a bit to create a sharper contrast near the focal area. Also have been added are the figures in the foreground to lead the eye into the painting.
