Crucian Carnival Series XXI by Michele Tabor Kimbrough
Immersed in the American Culture is the focus of Michele Tabor Kimbrough’s work. Her current body of work is called the “Crucian Carnival Series” which is from her travels to St. Croix during their annual Christmas Festival. The holiday festivities occurred as early as the 1800’s when the enslaved Africans were allowed time off to celebrate Christmas. By 1952 these celebrations of dancing, music and overall merry making became an annual organized event culminating into the final most famous event, the Adults’ Parade. Much of Michele’s works is from this parade and it’s just the beginning of her experiences that she intends to further develop and understand their American Culture.
